Until recently it was almost easy to get an Indian, Bharat or HP gas connection in Bangalore. Any of the documents like rental agreement for address proof was just enough. From a few months back, it is mandatory that the ration card need to be produced for residential proof. An official said that this change in law is to avoid any possible misuse the gas connections. I tried my best to do away with out a ration card, but was of no use.
So what I did was to get the deduction certificate after removing my name from the ration card at my native place in Kerala. I didn’t have to go personally to the Food and Civil Supplies Department office in my native place. The head of the family (father/mother) can go and get the name removed and get the deduction certificate.
Once you get the deduction certificate, you need to personally go to Food and Civil Supplies Department Office, near RBANMS college, Ulsoor and give the original copy of the deduction certificate together with the rental agreement at Bangalore for residence proof. The office functions on Saturday too. I think they don’t accept any companys residence proof certificate. You have to pay Rs 6/- towards getting the ration card application form. Once the application is accepted by the office you will be asked to come to the same office after around 45 days. In between a government official will come to your residence place for verification. They will check if you already own a government domestic gas connection. I was surprised to find that the verification officer was very friendly and cooperative and I didn’t have to spend any unofficial money for getting things done. Once you get a ration card, you can go to any of the Government gas agents and get the gas connection.
