’Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.’

by George Bernard Shaw

I think fashion is important to us because it’s a means of self-expression-it enables us to say something important to the world about who we are, or who we’d like to be. The clothes we wear say things about us(intentional or not), even to people we don’t talk with directly. It addresses the fundamental human need to belong, to identify ourselves with a group of others like us-whether it’s a lifestyle, a religion, a profession, or an attitude.

Fashion still changes, and there is still a strong interest in following trends and looking of the moment but its considerably less important than it was, and the prevailing sensibility now seems to be’I know this look flatters me, and I will continue to wear it regardless of whether or not this particular skirt length is considered’in’ this year or not. I think women are still place a lot of value on knowing what’s’in, ’ but are less concerned with actually wearing it-we want fashion to fit our lives instead of the other way around.

The method that I implement when I go for shopping is: HAVE A REASON:

Don’t buy it if you don’t need it, or it’ll end up hanging in your closet and being given away with the tags still attached(JUST LIKE MY ELDER SIS). Or, you’ll end up buying more things to go with it, and not wear those, either. The exception-if you truly love something, buy it, even if you have no idea where you’ll wear it. The opportunity will present itself.

I shall not call myself a shopoholic but then I am a typical Capricorn who believes in having the latest wardrobe.

I would suggest people(college crowd, office goers) to buy clothes from:

  1. WESTSIDE: A good variety for college students, Clothes ranging from 199 onwards and during sale…even less but would say to avoid going shopping during sales from such shops since they grow common very fast, targeting a lot of people. Formal wear too is excellent, includes trousers…shirts.shoes…skirts et al. Would not recommend jewellery as you’ll find them much cheaper at linking Road and other places.

  2. LIFESTYLE: A good place good variety of various brands like lee, pepe, life…You also find good kurtas and salwar sets though the price range would be from 500 onwards and for the kurtas from 600 onwards.

  3. SHOPPERSSTOP: A good place for Kurtis otherwise I’ll say not a very good variety and quite expensive too.

  4. OTHER PLACES: Arey apna Linking Road where in one will have to hunt but it will be worth it…you get good cargos, Chappals, Bags, belts, Glares, ganjis, stoles, good earrings and bracelets…(though my wardrobe is stacked up with the above). Then there’s COLABA CAUSEWAY that is best place to bargain for junk jewellery and Bermudas and at times you find rare tops. FASHION STREET too I guess is good though I’m yet to splurge out the place…

KEEP YOU UPDATED GUYS….GOOD LUCK…As the saying goes….

The car, the furniture, the wife, the children - everything has to be disposable. Because you see the main thing today is - shopping.
