I recently encountered a problem with my 500 GB External Hard Disk, which I had purchased three years ago for Rs 4500.
I mainly had Movies and Songs on this hard disk, and some of my Important Work files. I had almost utilized 400 GB on this hard disk, out of which 300 GB would have been for movies and Music and the remaining 100 GB had some important work files and Photos .
Last week all of a sudden, my hard disk stopped detecting on my system . I did tried my hard disk on few of the other systems, and no system could detect my External hard disk.
I finally went to a Data Recovery center and after having the hard disk for 5 days, finally they called up saying that my hard disk has to be recovered from Surface( I really don’t know what is this!) and they quoted me Rs 15, 000 for data recovery .
I was really shocked to hear that data recovery is so expensive .
I would like to give my advise, to have a back up of your very important files and photos on a DVD Disk or a Blue Ray disk, or get some space on some upload servers, so you don’t have to worry about losing your data . I would also recommend that all your important data is backed up atleast once in a month on some are trustworthy storage devices(like DVD or Blu-ray), so you don’t end up huge amount for the recovery.
Also it would be wise to change your External Hard disk once in three years .
