Let me begin by stating Never, ever mix household cleaners!
My sister wanted to really get her bathroom spotless and sanitized and wound up in the hospital emergency room!
She used bleach to clean and sanitize right after she used ammonia to clean it. The fumes from these two seemingly harmless cleaners send out highly toxic fumes! It can burn your eyes and throat very badly.
What I use to clean my floors(tile) and countertops and my painted walls is a mixture of 2 parts bleach to 10 parts water. There is just enough bleach mixed in to eliminate any dirt, stains and most germs.
For my bathrooms, I use a stronger mixture, 1/2 water and 1/2 bleach.
But if you want to purchase household cleaners from the store there are many different types. Most contain harsh chemicals so you must be careful.
For instance, Fantastik contains benzyl dimethol ammonium chloride, as does Formula 409 which are the two store bought cleaners I use sometimes. These are very harsh chemicals which pose a threat if ingested by children or animals, as well as a threat of blinding you if it gets into your eyes.
Both of these cleansers do the same job of disinfecting and sanitizing as my bleach and water do, but they also cut grease on your gas(or electric) range better than anything else Ive tried. You also dont have to rinse after cleaning with these(although I usually give a quick wipe with a damp cloth)
Then there is Murphys Oil Soap which I use on my wooden kitchen cabinets. Murphys has been around for 100 years as a wonderful wood cleaner. It removes splattered grease and oils and leaves your wooden cabinets with a beautiful shine. You do have to dilute this with water at a ratio of about 1 to 5 or it will leave a soapy coating instead of a clean shine.
All household cleaners pose a health threat to humans and animals alike, if ingested, swallowed , breathed in for too long or if they get in your eyes. Read all precautions!
If you want to play it safe, use water and some plain liquid household soap to clean your surfaces. This poses no real health threat, but, it also doesnt disinfect or sanitize. It just plain cleans.
Your choice, your decission. But whatever you choose to use, use it with caution, in a well ventilated room!
