Irctc is indian railways online booking service. there is the i-ticket option for home delivery of ticket(ALWAYS timely) and e-ticket(for printed ticket).
the site is a boon for me. I have become the chosen one in my own family and extended family to book all rail tickets!
the interface is simple, the speed is a lot better than it used to be and whats more, cancelling tickets(with e-ticket) is so easy. you get an honest and prompt refund thats automatically credited to your bank(icici) or any credit card.
https://irctc.co.in/ is the link for online booking. checking availability of tickets was never easier. forget about going to an agent!
also check out https://indianrail.gov.in/ to check train/PNR status. better still, register for mobile alerts. there are too many links to microsites in this one. but ours is a LARGE country with an even LARGER population.
much as he is known for his fame and notoreity, laloo, honble railways minister, three thumbs up to you on a great service!
now only wish the loos were better, stations poop-free and waiting areas clean. well, I live in hope!
