Gee -mom- you can't water the garden on-line!!!

Just relax, close your eyes and imagine the world in... lets say 100 years...

You were about to go to the electronic hairdresser, but your adopted cyber – daughter decided to make your day and introduce you to her new 87-year-old boyfriend who woke up from his hibernation something like 3 months ago...They met each other in some kind of chat room & now she decided to show him to her parents...

You have to prepare dinner for the whole family cause your beloved daughter invited him for tonight...

You aren’t worried about your hair at this moment... you are simply terrified cause you have only 3 hours to cook something eatable for a guy who after all is 87!!!! What to do???

  • But baby what does he eat?...he’s not used to nowadays    cuisine is he?

-Mom...come on... I know him only 2 weeks, I have no idea what can he eat, but hey... is it really such a problem? Just look it up in the net...I got to go now...

-Right...why haven’t I thought about it...

-We’ll show up about seven ok? And mom...please cook something special...bye

-Bye honey...(cook something special??? & how the heck should I do that???)

OK – Now this boyfriend did mess my plans...I was supposed to do so many things...If I want to prepare everything on time I’d better turn on my PC... Got to handle a few things...

1.Search for typical meals for golden oldies (hibernated)

2.Pay my telephone bill – thank goodness that I’m able to transfer the money by Internet & don’t have to visit the bank...

3.Call my hubby & tell him to order tickets for the ballet on tomorrows night show, hey but maybe I’ll do it by myself...after all I’m already on line...

4.Write an e-mail to my aunt in Africa.

5.Buy all the necessary products to prepare this meal...what is it called?...Spaghetti... Hope the delivery boy from the on-line shop won’t be late today...

There...done... now look at the time... it took me only 10 minutes...<ding- dong>- that would be the bell at the front door... it must be the guy from the shop (lucky that he’s on time).

OK – still 2, 5 hours left...I’ll have enough time to go to the electronic hairdresser, I’ll just program the cooking robot to make Spaghetti...or whatever it’s called... and I’m out of here...

..............................................................................................

Why this long introduction?

Well I wanted to show you guys the advantages of using Internet in every day life. Of course this is only my silly vision of the world in the future... but doesn’t it remind you something?

Don’t we pay bills, do shopping, order all sorts of things through the net? Don’t we write e-mails instead of good old handwritten letters? Don’t we meet other people in various chat rooms? I’m sure that every single one of us at least for a while thought that he/she is in love with somebody met in the net... Am I right?

And it all started so innocently in the mid – 1990’s when we witnessed this huge ’’boom’’ called INTERNET. Every year the number of Internet users increased very quickly, and is still growing...

First off all everyone who is reading this review now, has some kind of access to the Internet... there is no other possibility... ohh maybe except if somebody did copy it & send it to you (truly doubt it – cause who would want to read this...lol). We are all ’’often’’ users of this treasure called Internet. Unfortunately some of us (and I’m one of them) can’t get enough of it!

People like us are called net – addicts.

Yes hard to admit but I’m one of them. Is it wrong or right? I don’t know yet... Both I think...

Just look... You are able to save lots of time, when you don’t have to stand in a queue to make a transfer or pay a bill. On the other hand usually when you sit by your PC to take care of things like paying bills or doing shopping, you end up in some kind of chat room or playing on-line games. Just to cheer yourself up after spending another huge amount of money in those net stores... So you save time when you don’t have to move from your house, but you loose it by chatting with people whom you’ve just met! All in all taking a walk to a bank or supermarket is much more profitable than sitting, round – shouldered, with your tired eyes in the screen, by your computer.

What are the symptoms of this ’’modern’’ addiction?

I’ll show it too you on my own example:

Dots wakes up in the morning. She gets up from bed, opens the window & turns on her PC. She goes downstairs, turns the coffee machine on & heads toward the bathroom. Quick shower, few minutes with her coffee in the kitchen & she’s back upstairs just to check her mailbox, answer a few mails and go to work.

When she enters the office, what is the first thing she does? Yep – once again she turns on her PC. The whole day she has an access to it. Sometimes she takes a break to visit MS site & see what’s new, perhaps she’ll have enough time to leave a quick comment on another brilliant review?

When she comes home in the evening... Again she turns on her computer...she even eats her dinner in front of her PC.

During the weekends I’m usually at school – (I’m an extramural student), and even there I have a full day access to the net. And again during the breaks in the lectures, I surf, surf & surf...

What is the solution?

Throw away your PC! Naaahh – that’s not a good idea, unless you want to buy a brand new one...

Tell you what I’ve done...

I started avoiding chat rooms, I tend to chat only whit people whom I already know. Besides I try to limit those conversations as much as I can during the week – cause if I talk to long, I don’t sleep & if I don’t sleep, I’m tired the other day at work, and if I’m tired, my boss is angry, and if he is angry...I don’t have to tell you what happens then...

I begun to use the net to gain knowledge, believe me or not but honestly that’s what I’ve done! Focused a bit more on my school & all those paper works, which are waiting for my attention.

Ohh and one more thing, I don’t buy anything through Internet – this is an activity which I’ve done only once in a lifetime & don’t intend to repeat...

So then remember:

When there have appeared conflicts in your family, relationships, work or school

When others often complain to you about of time you spend on-line

When you neglect your friends & people you care about, and avoid social interactions just to stay on-line a bit longer

... think about it – what is more important for you... a human being or an ’’intelligent machine’’ ... hmmm?
