By the success of few reality shows everyone starts considering them as the shortcut to success, but are they?
Reality shows are just like other shows which do not have guarantee of success. Yes, it is true that in the recent past many of them have been successful but the number of failure is far more
The story of reality shows starts with the kbc which was a mega hit and brought star plus to no. One. At that time everyone starts considering quiz shows as the key of success and other channels also started such kind of shows( chhapa phad ke by sony, sawaal dus crore ka by zee tv), but they all had a sad end.
Indian idol launched by sony was a massive hit but its Indian idol-2 was unable to to repeat the story. Same thing happened to zees sa re ga ma pa: its challenge 2005 helps zee to revive its prestige and brought it to no.2 position ahead of sony but ek main aur ek tu meet the same destiny as Indian idol2. the great Indian laughter challenge2 and kbc2 are another such example which are not successful as considered.
So we see that every new thing is welcomed by the audience but if it is copied or repeated than the same audience reject it. Hence, reality shows cant be a long running success. These reality shows just provide a milestone to reach the milestone.
For example kbc has provided the platform to star but its success is carried by daily soaps(saas bahus...kind) and today serials like kyunki... And kahaani.... Are the backbone of success
Even with zee sa re ga ma pa brought it to no.2 but it is maintained by serials like saat phere and kasamh se
In the case of sony the success of Indian idol had made us to believe that sony is the next market leader but as it was unable to provide serials that could carry the success of Indian idol, sony falls to no.3 slot.
So in the end we conclude that reality shows acts as a starter but they are the daily soaps on which the success of any channel depends
