Hey people, in this highly, educated country of ours, it is indeed a tragic plight of our people, that we could never unite. We could not do it, when the foreign marauders invaded and violated our country centuries ago....and we are still unable to do it when our pathetic, lame excuses for politicians and bureaucrats, make a mockery of our laws, our infrastructure, in fact our very existence. With due respect to the sentiments of all those who are happy with their present roads, I think the majority of roads in our city are in deplorable and pathetic condition, examples being The Western Express Highway in parts, all roads leading to our INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, Sher-e-Punjab colony and our very important SEEPZ area, the road outside Siddhivinayak temple, Prabhadevi, to name a few.
Let us take this road first - alright they are trying to safeguard, one of our national treasures and a very popular temple of Lord Ganesh, from terrorists, but does that mean that the agency executing the contract should be allowed to carelessly and ruthlessly disregard the precious lives of the pedestrians who have to battle with speeding cars, cyclists and motorcyclists, who are each trying to outdo the other, in terms of me first! because there is no footpath left for pedestrians to walk on. Will someone, with the power to right this wrong, please remember that not everyone in our country travels in cars. Why do politicians want the roads cleared for them, so that they never know how bad the roads are??? Why do they not travel like us lesser mortals, so that a 30-minute distance by car takes a nerve-racking two hours??? In most Western countries, human life is priceless, in our country - alas, it is of no consequence whatsoever. We have gaping man-holes into which people fell and lost their lives on 26th July 2005 and families were left grieving for the rest of their lives. Why, because BMC and MMRDA officials simply could not be bothered. You know the worst part, these holes are still there and people still continue to fall.
We have speedbreakers in wrong places, we have trenches dug along the sides of the road and left there without any warning signs, we have various agencies like Mahanager Gas, MTNL and BMC viciously and sadistically digging up our roads just when they have been concretised, and then leaving them unfinished with piles of mud and stones. This inturn makes the road more narrow, so people again have no place to walk and they spill onto the roads, where cars have to go single-file even though the road is supposed to be for 4-lanes . Then we have the autorickshaws, an authority unto themselves, heaven help us because there are no traffic rules for them!
WHY DO WE KEEP QUIET? WHY DO WE NOT FOR ONCE UNITE ? WHY DO WE NOT ALL TOGETHER STOP PAYING OUR TAXES TO THE GOVERNMENT AND BRING IT TO ITS KNEES? THESE MONEY AND POWER-HUNGRY RUTHLESS POLITICIANS BLEED US TO DEATH, THEY PLAY THEIR GAME OF ONEUP-MANSHIP WHILE THEY SAP US OF EVERYTHING AND WHAT DO WE DO - WE TURN THE OTHER CHEEK ! SHAME ON US!
