The popularity of trekking is growing day by day around the world.Every year both in pre and post monsoon thousands of trekkers go out at the call of mountain. High altitude camping is related to this trekking. Most of the cases trekkers suffer casualties due to lack of knowledge about what precautions to be taken in high altitude.
The trekkers should keep in mind the following:
1.It is necessary to make a realistic program by specifying activities before they set out.
2.They should be aware of the duration of trekking.
3.They should divide the trek in point of time, ie, how much distance they will cover in a day.
4.Beyond the altitude of 8000 ft it is advised to gain altitude gradually.
5.After gain of 2000 ft acclimatization at least for 2 days is necessary.
6.In the trekking simple safety rules should be followed.
In the Nepal Himalayas in Muktinath, Langtang Lirung Santuary, Annapurna Base Camp the trekkers will get hut in every step and every stage. But in Western Sikkim it is difficult to get shelter on the way. It is necessary to carry tent.
Certain level of fitness is required for high altitude trekking. At low level trekking can be done with minimum fitness. Trekkers without required fitness face problem.
Trekkers should have capacity to deal with medical problem if there is no doctor in the team. A trekker should look after his sore feet, sore throat, changing his wet socks etc.
9.It is required to consume at least 4 litres drinking water and it should be purified.
10.Proper equipment should be carried like tent , rope and in case crossing in moraine it is required to take expert’s advice.
