In Haryana, Will Call Centre women employees & employers Lose Their Jobs?
Joblessness is the biggest Challenge India is facing. 37 per cent of its population are below the age group of 25. How is India going to provide jobs for them? Thats the question.
It is high time, discriminatory & retrograde anti-womens laws should be done away with & colonialistic bureaucratic oppressive ATTITUDE & TREND against women should be stopped. Even after nearly six decades, free- India is reeling in pain under these oppressive laws.
Here are some shocking news: In Haryana, no woman Will Be Allowed to Work In Night-shifts. Call Centre Women Will Go Out Of Jobs!Women are likely to be banned from Working In Night Shifts In Call Centres.
The politicians talk about Equality of opportunity irrespective of race, religion and gender & 33% Quota for women in legislatures & thousands of their other rights day in & day out, to catch votes.
But in states like Haryana, the crafty & evil-minded bureaucrats seem to be busy exhuming archaic Laws and enforcing them to make womens life a hell by rendering them jobless. Is this the way to solve unemployment problem? Isnt this the way to create and aggravate it?
Here is the case in study:The Haryana Government Labour Department Officials have taken steps to enforce Sections 9, 10 & 30 of the archaic Punjab Shops & Commercial Establishment Act of 1958. They are reportedly said to have sent notices to BPOs threatening strict action against them for violation of these sections of the act.
As per Section 30(Discipline section) of the Act, No woman shall be required or allowed to work whether as an employee or otherwise in any establishment during NIGHT. It is common knowledge that the out-sourcing business requires working mostly at nights; that is when all the transactions are taken up & completed. are we back in Stone Age with no electricity? How is night different from day? Are there no protection for working-women doing night-shifts?
The officials say that the exemptions allowed to IT & software companies wont apply to out-sourcing companies(BPOs) since they come under ITES & not ITs! Hair-splitting red-tape distinction!
If this Act is enforced, womens Employment Opportunities in BPOs will be seriously affected & set at nought. Any destabilization of BPO business in Gurgaon(Haryana) would hurt Haryanas economy irreversibly & affect employment chances most.
Gurgoan is reported to have 150 call centres, generating 70 per cent of Indias Off-shoring revenues(about 5.2 billion Dollar) and have the future employment potential for around 1.2 million new jobs by 2008.
All these hang in balance because of the threat of enforcement of that retrograde Act making women jobless.
Where are the Champions of Womens Cause & Rights? Where are the loud-mouthed womens Organizations? What are the Vote-bank politicians busy at?

If this trend continues, India will have to outsource business. Are we game for it? Are our states run by the elected governments or all-powerful bureaucrats?
Im waiting for your feedback in this burning issue. Please feel free to speak your mind!
