Call Centre: Y/N?

Hello to all of you, I was looking out on MS for a review on Call Centre, but didn?t find it so I am the lucky one to post the first review on call centre.

I feel that sharing reviews, ideas, opinions and experiences on Call Centre will be quiet interesting as it is the booming industry these days. I would like MS writers to point out the advantages and disadvantages of working in this Call Centre industry. This would definitely benefit our friends here.

Though I do not belong to this Industry and do not intend to enter this industry I personally find a strong curiosity in the knowing and gaining knowledge about this industry. Everyday there are several articles on BPO and Call Centre in newspapers, magazines and websites which I read.

Working in a Call Centre means gluing your self to the phone. If you are not used to speaking over the phone you have to get used to it and adjust your self. Call Center jobs are either Customer Service jobs or Telemarketing jobs. Speak, speak and speak.

In order to work in a Call Center you have to sacrifice your sleep. You have to change your schedules by sleeping during the day and staying awake the whole night. This obviously does disrupt your social life. You get hefty pay-packages by working in this industry. You also get perks, incentives and all those facilities that makes your life comfortable. You can flaunt your new cell phone, new clothes and your new bike/car.

An average commerce graduate working in a Call Centre draws 8 grands in the start, which is quiet remarkable. But mind you, you are paid less for the work you do and more for all the sacrifices and adjustments you are making on your self. Yes! One thing is for sure that you work in a Call Centre for about 6 months and you come out with a great personality building up your inter-personal and communication skills. After 6 months, you are now developed as a person and you now need to walk out of the Call Centre to make up your career.

Do you think that you are gaining any kind of work experience by working in the Call Centre? Yes! You are earning well and earning and making up money and living is your ultimate aim in life, that?s very much true, but are satisfied with your job? Do you have the job security that you need to have for long term plans? Do you see your long term career in this industry? If you feel that you are quiet intelligent and stand extra-ordinarily in your academics and you are working in a call centre, earning big, do you think you are doing justice with it?, as there may be several hundreds of average and below average students who would be doing the same job as you are doing.

This is my opinion on Call Centre jobs. I may be wrong in certain aspects, but the bottom line is: If you are really CAREER-ORIENTED you wont join a Call Centre and even if for some reason you land up in a Call Centre you wont work there for more than 6 months.

I can just go on and on this topic, but I feel I halt here for now. Will keep writing on this topic. Go guys let?s debate on this topic. What do you?ll think? Revert back in the form of comments or reviews. I guess reviews would be a better option. Awaiting for your replies.
