Geoffreys have a presence in Mumbai and Bangalore also. This one is about the Geoffreys at Radha Park Inn, Chennai. The narrow entrance from the hotels lobby to the pub is quite impressive. Arrived there at around 9.30 on a saturday night along with another 2 friends. It took around
20 mts for the gentleman who welcomed us to find a place for us, but thatz reasonable considering the fact that Chennai doesnt have many pubs and that too it was a saturday night. The crowd was nice, a mix of both yuppies in thier early 30s and 20somethings but not much of the teenage crowd.
It was my friends bday and we asked the waiter whether we can have a cake. It arrived in approximately 30 mts. A good creamy bday cake complete with candles. Two of the friendly waiters stood near with fire sparklers while the DJ played the Birthday wish. The whole crowd joined in singing and in wishing him, just like U have friends wishing U on your private bday party. My friend felt great and I could see it on his face. A treat which would otherwise have been a sober one, as only three of us were there become one of his best. And in a few minutes they gave a photograph(polaroid) of the wonderful moment pasted onto a bday card. The best thing about all this was they didnt charge anything for all this. Expecting freebies and getting something is normal but getting something when U least expect it is something which touches anyones heart and we too were touched.
Coming to the main thing we had a cocktail pitcher of IFORGOTTHENAME (rum with cola, lime and ice). Was pretty good and kept us activated for around 2 hrs. They serve only ground nuts as complementary snacks but it was the best I ever ate in my life (crisp and less powdery). The usual munchies which I have were all missing in the menu and had to settle for for some mushroom manchurians. The price was a bit high but below the psychological barrier of Rs.100. Being a veggie didnt touch any of the other dishes my friends ordered, so no comments on them but they all looked great!!!
The interiors are nicely done with antique pieces from the Land of Pubs(England) adorning the walls and illuminated with sober neon lights. The music system is good. They could have had wooden floors instead of the polished ones and they might have avoided the slight distortion in sound quality. They have a couple of pool tables also for those guys who think thier skills with the cue improve after they have had a couple of pegs of the worlds oldest performance enhancers. The only thing that sucks is that they dont allow U in if ure not wearing fully covered footware! ridiculous since they dont have a dance floor!!
And finally we left by around 12pm but heard that they are open sometimes till 2am. Overall its a nice place if U wanna have a bit of refreshment after a hard week at work.
