Read it if you dare

I must confess, I am not usually a Stephen King fan. However, a friend of mine, who is an avid reader, was telling me how she started reading it but could not get past chapter 3.

When I asked why she was having problems with it, she simply said it was too intense for her. Now that intrigued me. I thought she was going to say it’s too slow, or not interesting enough. Too intense was not the answer I was expecting, and it seemed like a challenge to me, so I asked her if I could borrow it.

The rest is as they say history. I started to read it and almost immediately realized what she was saying. It is typical Stephen King writing, but with an intensity I haven’t seen before. It is very descriptive. I mean down to the last detail. I kept invisioning him sitting there at his computer writing each sentence. Like time was never going to end.

I started reading it as a challenge. I really wasn’t expecting to like it. I just wanted to get past chapter 3 to say I did it. Well, I got past chapter 3 and kept right on going.

There are some parts of the book I had to read twice just to make sure I got it. I mean sometimes you can’t believe what you are reading. Not in a bad way, just apprehensive.

It’s so graphic in some areas that it made me physically nauseous. In other areas it was so disturbing that I had to stop reading just to improve my mood.

There are several things I would like to say about this book. One is, no matter how you feel about it, I guarantee you will not stop talking about it to anyone who will listen. Two is, it stmulated my senses, and I do not regret reading it.
