I do not drink, I havent had a drink now in 2 years, and even when I was drinking, I only experienced a hangover a couple of times. I will admit a few time I certainly did drink to excess and could have had a really bad hangovers but I played it smart.(Smart probably is the wrong word, no one plays it smart when they drink to excess!)
But here are a couple of tips Ive learned.
Never drink on an empty stomach. Eat foods with carbohydrates and sodium *before *you go out for a night on the town.
Also, before you start your partying, take a couple of Tylenol with a full glass of water.
Limit your drinking to about 1 drink per hour, and for heavens sake, DONT mix your drinks.
If these tips dont work, and you still wind up with a wicked hangover, here are some tips to remedy that.
When you wake up feeling that nauseating feeling and your head is throbbing, reach for the Tylenol and a full glass of water first thing. Next Try to eat a few saltine crackers(to ease the queezy feeling in your stomach) and again wash them down with as much water as you can possibly drink. Keep those fluids coming!
What alcohol does is deplete your body of much needed fluids and it causes dehydration. The toxins from the alcohol must be flushed out of your system as well. When you drink enough to actually have a hangover the next day, it is a form of alcohol poisoning!
Drink water until you feel like youre going to float away, and when you feel like you cant drink anymore, force yourself. Keep flushing your body and rehydrating it!
Try to lie down in a darkened room and rest or nap also.
But by far, the best remedy for getting over a hangover is NOT to allow yourself to get one in the first place.
The old wives tail ofthe hair of the dog that bit you(meaning have a drink when you wake up), is just that.an old wives tale. Why on earth would you want to consume even more alcohol? It does not work, it just prolongs the hangover.
Another remedy that has been proven dangerous is, tomato juice, tobasco sauce and a raw egg. The raw egg has been proven to be a contributing factor to some forms of salmonella poison!
So, as I said before, dont drink enough to cause a hangover in the first place and youll have nothing to worry about in the second place!
