There is something with all Emraan Hashmi movies. They all have unique and great script but poor climax and direction(Awarapan is an exception). May be, his bad luck!
Surely its not a family movie.
Sanju(Emran Hashmi) is an ex thief who now lives on the money earned by his past crimes. On being contacted by Pandit and Idris, Sanjus wife, Nitu(Vidya Balan), abets him to take up the job of robbing the bank for the lucrative offer of 10 crore rupees.
After robbing the bank, Pandit and Idris handover money to Sanju and tells him that theyll come back for their share after 3 months when the matter is settled down. But, on the way back home Sanju suffers an accident which makes him a patient of memory loss.
The whole movie thereafter revolves around finding the money.
The movie does not leads anywhere until the climax.
Emran Hashmi has done a superb job. With every movie his acting skills get more sharp.
Vidya Balan gained a lot of weight for this role and it is a very big sacrifice for an actress. She took the risk and the risk was worth it. There is no doubt in her outstanding performance.
The other two important character Rajesh Sharma (Pandit) and Namit Das(Idris) form the core part of story. Namit Das (Idris) is very entertaining though he goes off beat and do a little overacting in some scenes.
The characterization is very nice and specially Ghanchakkar babu is really impressive.
There are few songs and they come apt for situation. "Jab Allah Meherbaan "is different and superb but not the kind that everybody loves to keep in their iPod or walkman collection. Background score is as per the requirement and good.
What disappointing in the movie is the climax. The movie could have been far better if the climax would have been worked upon. Its different but its haphazard and is ridiculous. There are a lot of high pitch yelling after the second half specially . The entertainment curve which increases till the first half takes a downward direction and keeps going down after the interval.
At places the movie gets vulgar and hence, not suitable to be watched with family. Editing is poor. They should have remove the last 5 min of the movie completely. There was no need of focusing camera on the faces subsequently.
Direction is Ok. The movie could have been lot better than what it is. With Aamir and No One Killed Jessica to accolade, rajkumar Gupta disappoints with Ghanchakkar.
In short, The movie gives you a good laugh and entertains in the first half but the dragging second half and the ridiculous climax leaves you bitter and spoils the mood.
The movie has got quite unpredictable but pathetic suspense, though, there is a very good moral waiting for you at the end, only if you could identify it :P
Best sequences
1.The Bank Robbery
2.Conversation between Sanju and his mom
3.Idris playing Doctor- Doctor Game
4.Sanjus repeated failure to recognize Pandit and Idris
Its a onetime watch and will not matter even if you give it a miss. If you have nothing else to do, you can watch Ghanchakkar.
My rating: 2.5/5
