Danielle Steel is stereotypically known for writing glamourous romantic tales which inevitably top the U.S. Bestsellers list. Her stories are always enjoyable, but when you have read almost everything that she has written (as I have) you run the risk of encountering similar themes and characters and situations.
Although I have never been dissatisfied with one of her novels (okay, maybe once, but thats a different review!), there are only a few that stand out in my mind as the truly amazing stories that I could read and re-read.
Of those stories, The Gift remains at the top of the list. What stood out about this story? Well, first of all, it is not the typical love story for which Steel is renowned. This is a story which centers around a family, struck by tragedy, and almost torn apart. Of course, it is also a love story, but not in the typical sense. Instead, it is a story which tells of many different kinds of love: the love between a parent and a child, the love shared by a family, and new love discovered by two young adults.
I believe that The Gift is truly a masterpiece. Danielle Steel excels with this story that flows easily and passes quickly while creating a web of unforgettable characters that will touch your heart. I found myself laughing and crying all through the story. It has been 3 years since the first time I read this book, but I have never forgotten about the characters and the beautiful story which touched my heart.
I would recommend this novel to every girl out there, because I know that most of us love those stories which move us to laughter and tears. This may not be a story that would appeal to most men, but bonus points to those sensitive males out there who might be interested in reading an excellent book.
