I have been using a Gilma chimney for the past one-and-a-half years without any issue. Incidentally I purchased the chimney from an outlet next to Bethany school in Koramangala, Bangalore. In fact I had had an imported chimney for many years which I had bought in Dubai before switching over to Gilma.
I changed my old chimney not because that it packed up but decided to go for a better model with a higher suction capacity.
I thought I should scribble something after seeing the reviews. It is natural for anyone buying a chimney for the first time to have very high expectations. I do understand people do not go building/buying houses every now and then.
However, I would like to underline my statement "buying for the first time" because people in general really do not understand how to operate a chimney properly and hence the woes.
I have seen even my close friends, irrespective of any brand, complaining that it is noisy though it is indicated on the manual that the noise level can reach even above 62 decibel if operated at high speeds. The noise level shall be higher in case of obstructions in the snaking outlet ducts.
People in general try to save power by running the chimney at high speeds after cooking when the manual says the chimney should always be at a low speed throughout the period of cooking.
Many go to foreign countries and go ga ga over their system of services and other facilities in those places.
But it is sad that the same people who are so full-throated about systems and disciplined lifestyle in foreign countries do not try to understand our existing sytems/rules nor follow any system at all when they are back in India.
Do you know the simple fact that one has to pay heavily for any after-sales in any foreign country and hence most of Indians repair/mend their appliances/furniture etc., abroad?
It is sad that it is common tendency to blame the system when you yourself cannot follow any system. My dear friends please do not expect service personnel to come to your doorstep and give you cheap/free service because you have an Internet Connection and other Communication devices in your house.
It is high time the Indian attitude of I earn 6-10 digit salary and a technician should earn only Rs 800 per month must change.
I am not trying to advocate any particular product because the market is flooded with products but I do know the services and charges abroad as a retired engineer from Siemens and Falmec.
I wonder if we are sitting in glass houses and throwing stones. Nouveaux riches beware! Rome was not built in one day.
