Burma, India and WWII Malaya. The fate of the central characters all drawn almost by an unknown force we can only call fate. 3 generations of people whose lives all are sadly tragic and joys are bittersweet. I have a weakness for Sub-Continent writers and hence Amitav Ghosh has somewhat taken my fancy.

The way in which the many different characters both central and supporting have been imagerised by Mr Ghosh is excellent. He writes with a sensitivity that is amazing in his focus to detail. When I first picked the book and commenced reading I was not sure if I would actually finish reading it. But as the the story began to unfold, I found it a page turned one that I felt compelled to find out the ending.

So many hopes and dreams and so many sorrows untold and only sensed by the reader as Mr Ghosh spins his yarn. Amazing must read
