Globus, the theatre came into existence around a year back. Being situated at Hill road in the midst of a shopping area, most of the people are shoppers enjoying a movie break. I have been to the theatre six times so far & have enjoyed all the movies as yet right from ’Filhaal’(the first movie to be screened at Globus) to ’Kehtaa Hai Dil Baar Baar’.
First things first, the theatre is excellent with the best theatre seats that I have ever sat on. The hall is compact and seats about 250-300 people. The cafeteria is small and ill equipped to handle the number of people during the interval. The snacks are expensive and so is the pricing of the tickets(Rs. 80-100 depending on show timings). The parking space is limited and mostly one has to park on the adjacent road. The theatre is located on the 4th floor and there are 2 lifts available, which are certainly not enough. The best part is that the exit is through the shopping mall where one can browse through the enormous collection of clothes and cosmetics, and then step into a capsule lift.
The worst part is the ticket counter. The staff is moody and does not believe in ’serving the customer’. Once, I asked for 2 tickets for the 6 o’clock show, and I was conveniently handed tickets for the current 3 o’clock show which screened another film. The staff at the counter refused to accept their mistake and I was made to wait till someone came over to buy the 3 o’clock tickets. Had that person not taken the tickets from me, I would have had to watch the film which I had seen earlier. This is not a one-off experience. I have seen people arguing with the ticket counter staff several times. A kind watchman in Khaki deserves a special mention for calming the public. He doubles up as the liftman and will hand over tickets to you for a housefull show at no extra cost.
Overall, Globus is one of my favourite theatres in Mumbai and if one can ignore the trouble in getting the ticket from the unfriendly staff, then the pleasure of watching a good film in an excellent ambience is worth the price of the ticket.
