Paul Buchheit worked so hard to fulfill his dreams and finally it was announced to the public on 1st April 2004. Every product needs marketing and I remember chatting with one of my cousins in yahoo messenger where he spoke about this mail service called as GMAIL.
I was in college and it was a hectic task to keep deleting the notes I used to receive in my yahoo mail since the mail capacity was low and more than that incase if I had to browse through any of my friends wedding invitation which was buried under those notes was even more tough. That was the time I was sent an invitation by this cousin since GMAIL let people sign up through invitations only since it was a beta-release. What surprises me is why they have still kept it as BETA version! It has more than ten million users and still BETA version? But now I see anybody can sign up which is a great thing.

I sat in front of my computer, signed up this mail service and out of curiosity I browsed through the features available in it. Well, I like google products. They don’t come up with many but whatever they have published gives a hard time for their competitors. Gone are those days where Microsoft used to rule and if I am right Google is giving a hard time for Microsoft. My first mail was hotmail and I am extremely sorry to break all your hearts saying that it’s been deleted recently due to the excess of junk that pops up in it. I hate junk and then what made me get addicted to Gmail when we all know it’s just more than a mail? Not a surprising fact and as I click on this Compose Mail to write my first mail to parents, technology had overtaken those letter pad’s I used to scribble on back in nineties. I feel nostalgic… I wanted to make it as good as possible. I used those options which are available to color my texts, fonts and checked the spelling and attached a photo of mine. Oops, mail sent. The photo which was 4 M.B was loaded in no time and sent! Amazing…

This is an effort taken by Google to help all of us in order to browse through those letters which fixes a smile on our face. I searched for a ‘file’ that was sent to me quite some time back. Well, if you would like to know about the file, then please read further. When I found the file, I was in tears because of bliss. I don’t think any other mail has this option and it makes gmail different from their competitors. Now I see in.com has an option where we can sent mails as per scheduled for later purpose. Something which is not very useful at the moment but appreciate their effort as well.

I moved that ‘file’ to my draft because I didn’t wanted to miss it and more than that I wanted to check it quite often when I feel low so draft made my life simple.

I wanted to flip through the mail box to see if I have responded to all the mails… I saw this one mail which was not opened so far and clicked on it to see those pictures which was attached along with it. TAJ MAHAL looks so beautiful. Just a click away and I have been taken to AGRA.

*Chat made simpler:

I need not sign in to yahoo messenger nor do I have to spend time seeing those messengers loading time. This is the world of GMAIL. You see a contact list just on the left hand side where it allows you to interact with the person in a click. You don’t want others to see you appearing online? Just appear invisible my friend.

This is what you see on top of this mail. Just a click away and you are taken to where you wish to be. Don’t you think it’s amazing? It has three views. Gmail can be accessed in standard view with the chat option. It has standard view without the chat option and the basic HTML. I run the HTML view when my net is too slow. It helps. Trust me it does.

New Features:
-
PDF – This is made as fast as possible. Just a click away and you get a preview of what the file all about. Helps incase if you don’t have an acrobat reader installed in your system.
Tasks – It helps if you have a memory loss. Track down what you need to do and once you typed out the task, convert the email into a task. You get reminded of the task seeing it and once done, then look at your left hand side under the contacts and all you need to do is turn off or on the task.
Themes – For all those stylish people out there to try out there new themes and I chose one which appeared as a letter pad.
Free IMAP – You can sync your inbox in any devices. Whatever changes you make in your mail can be seen from anywhere you access your inbox. If you have an iphone then it has this browser by typing out the link m.gmail.com to get directly to your mail.
20 MB attachment limit – This is again an awesome feature. Have you taken a video of your kid? Why don’t you send it to your relatives? Don’t worry about the space limit, because 20 MB is quite huge for a mail service to provide.

*Signing Out:

As I am signing out from this page I wanted to tell you all about the ‘file’ that made me happy. The file that made me smile. Well, I see hotmail, yahoo and many other biggies increased the capacity of the mail. Will that help to stop Gmail? I doubt. I think they need to work so hard to give a competition to this service provider. After all it’s a Google product. Now, the ‘file’ was none other than my parent’s reply to my mail saying ‘You always make us feel proud’. I was in tears out of joy and I ‘starred’ the mail and signed out the mail. Love & Peace!
