Date: 06 Feb 2006, this is the date when Go-Air entered into the books of my reviews and I flew home at about 12.30 pm the departure was 10.30 am, I went a little early to Chennai Airport.
It was a pleasant surprise to see the beautiful Chennai Airport, I saw so many foreigners on this Airport, I pinched myself to wake up and register that I am in India. Funny of all things was many beautiful foreign girls were carrying surf boards with them as baggage. I guess Chennai is becoming a destination for water surfing lovers all over the world.
The baggage check in was half an hour earlier than the flight, they have a very small counter when I went to them only 3 people were standing in the line before me and few kids behind the counter were playing with their printers, when I asked them what is the matter they politely said, their printer is not working properly and we will set it right shortly and print all of you gentlemen’s boarding cards. Their weighing machine was a common scale (horizontal) with no conveyor belt behind it. They take your baggage and carried by their staff by hands to put it on the regular conveyor belts and onwards to loading it to the Aircraft.
It was very enjoyable to see the human side of an airline. Usually we have an image which reflects efficiency and nose in the air attitude. But the Go-Air staff was human that got my heart with them.
The Aircraft as I have mentioned was Airbus and it looked new and had sturdy seats and very good from insides, the staff was young people with cute faced girls. I don’t know why I keep looking at the face of Airline girls; it’s because we are sitting idle so much of time confined in a small place what else one can do??
I have very nice feelings that this Airline, it will go a long way in India, they are cheapest, simple and very easy attitude. Give them some time they will surely capture the market of India. The attitude to the business will ultimately make a sound company remain in future India, the more humble and simpler more likeable to Indian people.
Food was cheap to purchase inside the Aircraft and staff were humble and easy going so also there was a slight delay in the arrival of luggage at the destination but I did not mind waiting for my luggage as the fares were cheap.
G0-AIR is a simple name to remember, their Trademark is also very simple and less confusing than others. I think every company has a business plan, my company intends to capture higher end of our market and many new airlines in India are in the race for this same thing. But go air is different because they seem to want to capture the lower end of the market. That is where India is very wide and broad and long and tall.
Mass appeal is the best business in India; cheap service will go a long way.
