I went to Goa last month with some of my friends and stayed there for fifteen days. I must say it turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life. I discovered Goa is not about sand, sea, sun and seafood. Its a lot more than that from handicrafts to local music from cashew-nuts to wines, Goa will serve you all.
The best part is that most locals are extremely friendly as well as helpful. This impressed me a lot. And I soon found out that apart from the beaches, Goa is also filled with ancient temples, churches, museums and art galleries. Therefore, theres plenty to explore as far as local sightseeing is concerned. In this context, I would also recommend the Anjuna flea market to everyone.
Goa is also a safe place provided you dont roam around in some of the beaches late at night. As far as the food is concerned, its simply delicious. On my first day at Goa I tried fish curry, pickles and rice. This combination turned out to be amazing. Apart from the restaurants, you can find such food in the numerous beach shacks as well. Interestingly, these beach shacks gave me the opportunity to taste local flavor in the best possible manner. I also tried mussels, tiger prawns, shark and tuna. And tasted Bebinca(a local pudding). It was simply awesome!
Finally, Goa being a popular tourist destination, can be easily accessed from most parts of India. I also discovered that theres no shortage of hotels/accommodations from budget friendly to luxurious ones.
