A God in ruins by Leon Uris is an apt description for Leon Uris himself! The well known, and highly rated author of such books as; Exodus, MILA-18, Topaz, Armageddon.... disappoints with his latest offering.
Uris, known for his sharply etched characters, picturesque description of situations and events, kaleidoscopic backdrop with in-depth research.... is disappointing in this book. The story of two rivals fighting US Presidential election 2008, coming into the market in this Election year....has none of the hype, excitement, drama, or political maneuvering etc.
There is hardly any description of the world, or US Scenario being faced by the incumbent President, or by the challenger. The book focuses more on the personal lives of the candidates, that too history dating back 25-40 years, and supposedly explosive secret that one of the candidates has kept buried. The secret is a damp squib.
The book is not even worth quarter of the 300 rupees I spent buying a paperback edition. No wonder, the book hardly finds any mention anywhere.
