Oh, God

I bought this book with great interest and excitement. In the beginning it looked good but then I am from mangalore and the description given of Kerala and the people is nothing new to me. I have een seeing the rivers and the coconut palms often.

I thought an award winning book would defintiey be very good. But when I read about the mother and her chidlren and the happenings I didn’t find it good. The descriptions, at times erotic, are good and very picturesque. But the story which move backwards and forwards is not interresting. The adultery that the mother commits is revealed in graphic detail and is awful to read.

The author has given details of a woman going to the toilet and using it. She has written about the candy seller at the film theatre who takes advantage f the boy and does awful things which normally are not mentioned in print unless it is a prono book. Such descriptions are hurting the reader.

Perhaps that is the reason why the book got the award. But for the average reader it is not interesting. I was disappointed since I had set great store by it.
