This book was given to me by my cousin to read.I was reluctant to read it at first.I mean, its 500 pages! I can get two Chetan Bhagats in there.Anyways he was very insistent and so I grabbed the surprisingly light cover and began to read it.Am I glad that my cousin forced me to read this?
Yes, This is a kind of book, one can come across to read in his entire lifetime. The book begins with a Bang, ends with a Bang and in the middle there is Boom-Boom all around.People who think that action is not their cup of tea are the people who have not seen what real action thriller looks like.
Plot:
The book is set in the United States of America in the 1950s when crime was organized into syndicates orfamilies and the mafia controlled most of the real power. The book follows the fictional Corleone family through their power struggles with the other gangs.
The story woven by Puzo is water-tight.It is easy to forget that Puzo wrote this book almost 4 and a half decades ago.Every single character of the book has a motive and has a face hidden from others. The transaction of a simple "weak" man to a powerful don is both, thrilling and heart-breaking at the same time.
What really clicks in the book is authors writing style(which shifts from 3rd person to 1st person in chapters) which is both different and appropriate for a book with story of this intensity. In Puzos book.First 250 pages are truly extraordinary and exhilarating. You dont get a minute to think about what happened in the past pages because you desperately await for the future while very carefully reading the present. The next250 pages are nothing less than heart-touching, nerve-wreaking and bone chilling.
If you decide to read this book, then make sure that on the day of reading the book, you take a day off from your work.cause boy, once you start reading thismasterpiece, your hypnotised mind wont allow you to stop until you manage to read every single page and every single word of the book.
