Ive been waiting for this movie for like 3-4 months and then finally got a chance to book the tickets on Day 1 @ IMAX Screening and it was worth the wait.
For those who watched the Previous Godzilla(1998) and Pacific Rim, ul be a bit disappointed cos ds movie is not a total out n out sci-fi monster movie but there s drama n narrative storyline, so guys who love no brainer action like transformers etc u mite not like this, this is more like Dark Knight of Godzilla films.
The movies runtime is exactly 2 hrs, and the ultimate action sequences start @ the ending 30 min, but ul get a satisfying experience when you will leave the theatre, wanting to see another time.
Those who have seen the trailers n read reviews b4, know that there another monster which will be fighting against Godzilla, but even though, the story is not predictable, but makes it more curious.
I will be reviewing the movie in the below categories.
PLOT:
Its pretty straightforward with the pacing of the movie being fast and right to the point not wavering here n there. as the movie passes by, ul b more focussed into it as to what would happen next keeping it unpredictable and also its not over complex, so everyone of any age wud understand whats going on.
Its not totally sci-fi, action flick like avatar, aliens or pacific rim etc, there s equal imp given to storytelling, has good shares of drama and action in parts which come @ the end which the general audiences wud feel the movie being slow n boring sometimes.
ACTING:
Credit to Bryan Cranston, Ken Watanabe who has done some standalone job, others r good in their parts, nothing exceptional
CINEMATOGRAPHY:
This is the main highlight of the film. every scene is shot beautifully(u might relate to Dark Knight or 300 type of visual style @ parts) and u get the feel of being there and experiencing what the actors r feeling, kudos to camera artists.
Another point here is that, since this a universal movie, theyve done a good job, shooting in all parts of the world, and the scenes are shot @ large scale, wide angle and massive level of destruction.
3D:
It was good but nothing great, wud be the same if u watch it in a normal screening.
THE MONSTERS:
MUTO design, effects were done well and infact it shared more screentime compared to Godzilla but that was makes Godzilla more valuable and exciting to watch cos whatever time he gets to be on screen its truly riveting and amazing
Design of Godzilla is simply superb, no comments to say u got to watch it to appreciate it
ACTION SCENES:
Hardly 2-3 fight scenes, and the main is in the end, but its worth the wait, and every moment is shot exceptionally well, when u leave the theatre, only the last 15 min is wat u wud be thinking off.
Definitely a must watch for all age groups (no adult scenes or excessive violence, just plain action), 3d or no 3d wudn make a difference, but make sure the sound effects of the theatre is best
Waiting for X-men, How to Train your Dragon 2!
Happy weekend!
