Gold souk mall in kochi despite it being a somewhat large mall and situated in a prime location doesnt see much crowd. I believe there are two main reasons, one is the opening of lulu mall and second which is more important from a shoppers point of view is the lesser number of brand outlets available here and the departmental stores available here have much larger more exclusive showrooms within the vicinity.
The two places that see action here are the Q cinemas multiplex and the KFC outlet, the first one in kochi. The mall was officially started in 2011, the Kfc started couple of yeras before that. It mainly aimed at the marriage crowd with focus on gold as the name suggests. The idea as a whole is good as marriages are the place where the most splurge happens. And because of this most of the shops are for jewellery exclusively, to name a few there is the Kerala based bhima, malabar, kalyan etc and there are also a number of others including asmi ddamas agni etc to name a few. And for wedding apparel there is seemas manyvar etc.
Apart from this there are also casual clothing brands like levis, john players etc but are in limited number for a large mall. Also there are some footwear stores and also some electronic stores. Some high end accessories brands like longiness tag heur are also there, But overall there isnt much.
The major departmental stores are spencers and pantaloons . There are some option for entertainment, like the pool table, bowling pit and an arcade game area. There is also kid playing area. But the major one would be Q cinemas multiplex, it is a good multiplex and the only reason the all sees some crowd. For eating outlets there is afood court and also a large restaurant named 24carat inside. Apart fro this there is the Kfc on the ground floor, subway and pizza hut.
But overall the mall lacks in ambiance and a mall should latest have a small crowd. The place looks like it would close down soon and it is not well maintained. Another problem is parking, parking is along the top 3 or 4 floors and last time I went there to watch a movie, it was full and we wee asked to park in th open area surrounding the mall. The crowd present was just for watching movies. If the mall was popular there wouldnt be place even to park outside.
