What a wonderful thing imagination is!

When I read books like The Golden Compass, The Suble Knife and The Amber Spyglass, Philip Pullman’s fantasy trilogy, it makes me wish I had such a vivid imagination. But my lack of it is more than compensated for by the Pullman?s surplus.

Welcome to a wonderful world of unforgettable characters, places you?ve only dreamed of and endless adventure, as lived through the life of a young girl. Every page comes alive and sucks you in. You can?t read this trilogy without becoming a part of the story and playing out the different characters.

This story is one hell of a ride. Hang on tight because you never know where it will take you. One second you?re running amok in warm comfort of Oxford university, and the next you?re fighting for you life in the frigid North Pole. You make friends with gypsy?s, warriors and armoured bears. You live a little and die a little. But you have a great time doing so. For me, that?s the mark of a great book, and I?m writing this review because I want at least one other person to enjoy the experience as much as I have.

I had never read any Philip Pullman till a friend gifted me the trilogy. And I haven?t read any of his books since. If you want to read this book, you?ll probably find it marked under ?young adult? reading. But don?t let that stop you from picking it up. Because once you do, you won?t put it down.
