GOLDEN DRAGON
Golden Dragon just opened its doors to Gurgaonites, at the Mega Mall, early December. A Very atypical Chinese interior with fabric in red and green (and not to forget the fish Aquarium), this Chinese restaurant has 60 covers. “We plan to increase our covers, just outside and add a live Mongolian Bar-be-que counter as well, ” informs Area Manager Terrence Davids. The menu here is mostly Chinese but also sports a few Japanese dishes, like Ebi Tempura (Rs 325), which is deep fried tiger prawns served on a bed of fried vegetables and Yaki Tori (Rs 160) which is tender chicken on skewers served with special barbeque sauce, to name a few.
The restaurant also has branches in Vasant Vihar, Panchsheel and Lajpat Nagar, though the food is not very authentic, but Golden Dragon sure has some die-hard fans.
A great idea to start one’s meal in this weather is with a hot soup. There are quite a few options on the menu; I quite enjoyed my Manchow chicken Soup (Rs 80), which was nice and flavorful. “The sea-food served here is specially flown in from Vishakapatnam, and you must try our Crabs in Black bean sauce, Steamed fish in Chilli bean sauce or any of our Prawns for starters”, recommends, Chungdak, Restaurant Manager. Surely the sea-food lovers can rejoice, in this not so coastal city!! For the main course, the vegetarians could try the Chef’s Vegetable basket (Rs 150), which is basically stir fried seasonal vegetables served in a crunchy potato basket. Our server also recommends the Eggplant chilly dry (Rs 115) for the vegetarians. Though not truly authentic but the roast pork Black mushrooms (Rs 125), tasted quite nice, along with the Veg fried Rice (Rs 120), I ordered. I would definitely add that the portion size is value for money out here.
For dessert the usual Toffee banana/apple with ice-cream (Rs 105), Date Pancakes with ice-cream (Rs 85) and the like is on offer on the menu.
The green leaf tea served as a ritual is a fitting and soothing ending or in fact a good idea is to have the tea throughout the meal to keep revitalizing the taste buds.
An average meal for two would cost around Rs 500/-.The place is open for lunch and dinner. The Bar is yet to be operational. Friendly waiters and helpful service makes dining here a comfortable experience.
