A philosophical novel

This novel has been beautifully written by Rabindranath Tagore. it presents a discussion on religion and politics. its setting is nineteenth century India which was dominated by British Raj. it has a love story and various different sub plots. its characters present a variety of ideology. one of its prominent themes are subjugation of women. Tagore has also presented the problems of the society like caste system and various religious thinking. the name of the protagonist is Gora. he is by caste a Hindu who is very energetic.  He loves a girl Sucharita but he cannot accept it. he has his own problems for it. it is very interesting to see that when Lolita falls in love with Binoy who is the friend of Gora the nature of Binoy changes. he renounces Hinduism for the sake of love and accepts Brahmos. the aim of brahmos is to create a nation of equality. it represents Brahma Samaj. when Gora knows it he remains in dilemma. it is a very interesting novel which tends the readers to think upon the social evils.
