I have to write a review on this man. I have got nothing personal against him, but sorry to those who think otherwise, he is a very poor coach.
Batting Order- I think experimentation is fine to an extent, but consistently sending Irrfan Pathan into the No.3 position is not. For me, the No.3 position is the most important in the batting order, and I feel Yuvraj Singh should play in that position or Rahul Dravid.
Young Players- It is good he is looking at the youth, but old players have experience which will turn matches into India’s way. The exclusion of Anil Kumble was just stupid, his return is probably the best thing that has happened to Indian cricket over the last 6 months. Zaheer Khan, who was the top wicket taker in the Ranji Trophy last year was called up, then dropped again. He proved his mettle for Worcestershire, that’s why he has been recalled but there is a high chance that Zaheer could well be out of the team if he fails to perform in even just one match, due to Chappel’s love for his youth players.
Out of form players- As I have mentioned, Pathan’s confdence as a batsman and a bowler was ruined due to his promotion. I do not want him to be dropped, but why does’nt Chappel just let Pathan concentrate on his bowling first, as he is our main strike bowler. Suresh Raina is a good talent, but he has been kept in the team for South Africa. I thought he was very selfish against Australia, when he blocked all those deliveries, but Chappel still supports him.
THE SOURAV GANGULY ISSUE- It’s quite simple, this is the issue for what he will be remebered for. I cannot believe the way he insulted Ganguly and got him kicked out of the team. The guy is just plain stupid, to come into a cricket mad country and treat one of the most popular and best players like that. That e-mail just proved he is against Ganguly, I’m glad people in Kolkata protested against him. Also, he will be remembered for his finger against the Kolkata fans.
All in all, a poor coach, not reccomended for any team.
