Introduction:
Once again Rajiv Rai makes another movie with so many characters. But this time its not a multi-starrer movie, it?s a multi-heroine movie. Well all of u might have watched this movie and if not then its worth watch and this time I am not revealing the suspense. It?s a thrilling suspense movie revolving around mainly Bobby Deol, Kajol and Manisha Koirala and is a quite a different story. Well not many suspense movies might have tasted such success as Gupt had tasted at the box-office.
Story/Plot:
Film starts off with we being shown the Governor Jaisingh (Raj Babbar) who is married to widow ShardaDevi (Priya Tendulkar) and has a step-son Saahil (Bobby Deol) and their own son Rahul. Typical entry of bade baap ka bigda beta Saahil is shown and we have the first song and appearance of Saahil. Saahil?s hates his step-father. Now Governor?s P.A. is Ishwar Diwan who has a daughter named Isha (Kajol) who is Saahil?s love from childhood but is separated from him. One day he meets up Isha in college and their love begins then.
Then we have the entry of Sheetal (Manisha Koirala) who is a daughter of industrialist and Governor?s friend Chaudhary (Dalip Tahil) and who is also in love with Saahil too but she never reveals it. Now one day on the eve of Saahil?s birthday Saahil?s dad announces Saahil?s engagement with Sheetal (with all the conspiracy created by Sheetal?s dad). Saahil openly condemns his dad and says he loves Isha. Now there is a big fight between son and dad in the party and Saahil picks up a Knife and shows it towards his dad.
Later that night someone takes advantage of the confrontation between the son and dad and kills the Governor. Now considering what and happened in the party and Saahil being found with a knife at his father?s place with governor killed he becomes the prime suspect of the killing but he hasn?t killed his father and is sent to Jail. He had recovered the locket of the killer at the place and he gives it to Sheetal to keep it safely so that he can catch the real killer. Now he escapes from the jail to prove his innocence.
When out of jail he starts investigating about the killing of his father with the prime suspects being minister Govardhan Tiwari (Prem Chopra), Union leader Vilasrao (Sharat Saxena) and also Chaudhary. But now since Saahil is absconding from Police we have the entry of Om puri who plays a role of Police inspector investigating the case. How Saahil clears the mystery behind his father?s killing and finds the killer forms the rest of the story and the movie which for u to watch out.
Performances :
Bobby Deol: Has done great. This is the first time I liked him in a movie. Looks fine with those long haired looks. Performed well in the emotional scenes as well the dishum-dishum scenes. Has two femmes after him in the movie and why not?? (being the Governor?s son..)
Manisha Koirala: Looks hot and acted well too. I totally agree with my ms friend Muneeb who had said in a comment to one of my rvu?s that Manisha looked cool in the movie. Looks fat in some of the scenes but the rest is gr8 to watch her. Suits to her role well of always trying to help her love in the movie.
Kajol: Well what should I say about her. One of my favorite actresses always acts well and she has done well in this movie too. No wonder she received a filmfare for this movie. Doesn?t look fat in the movie at all.
Om Puri: Is always good. This time in the role of a tough Police inspector who does only one work at one time until being finished does gr8. He is fun to watch in this movie particularly his dialogue delivery and expressions are great.
Paresh Rawal: This time Paresh does not make us laugh because he is not doing comedy in the movie. Playing a serious role of a pleading father has done well although his role is short.
Other guest appearances by (Our own)Tej Sapru(danda kar dunga..), Raza Murad (Arz kiya hai?), Dalip Tahil, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Ashok Saraf, Raj Babbar, Sharat Saxena, Prem Chopra all have done well. Any of the characters doesn?t bore at all.
Music: Well I have written a complete rvu for the music album of Gupt so if you have read it u?ll know how I liked the music of Gupt. The background is excellent especially the screaming background when the killer comes to kill another prey. Songs are picturised well although a couple of songs were not required.
Conclusion: A must watch movie. Total time?pass. Best enjoyed when watched with friends. Do watch it?
