After all the hype about it, I think this film did not live up to expectations. There was no overall flow in the narration. The story seems to be patched up, with Vidya Balan’s role having no significance at all. It feels like a documentary and you don’t feel a bonding with the characters. The emotional element was missing. I think not enough was said about Guru’s rise to the top, and it cannot be called an inspirational film.
The story gives the impression that in India one cannot reach the top in the business world without resorting to dishonest and corrupt ways and spreading false propaganda through the media. The music was also quite average. The cinematography was good, especially in the songs, as always in Mani Ratnam films. Abhishek Bachchan’s acting is quite good. Aishwarya looks beautiful in colourful saris. Midhun and Madhavan are good in their roles.
