Many like to give the title of ’greatest showman’ or ’father of Bollywood’ to Raj Kapoor-which always irks me to no end :) Guru Dutt is honestly one of the best things to have happened to the Indian film industry and I am truly thankful he is not around to see what a joke the industry has become (ok sorry for coming off as so harsh).
Not only was Guru Dutt an excellent actor but he was also just as good in directing movies and thinking way ahead of his times. This explains why some of his movies that were not accepted then are now widely-accepted and respected in the current day and age by those who appreciate deep, quality movies that make you reflect back days after having seen it. Pyaasa and Chaudvin Ka Chand are my two personal favorites. Two very different types of movies with a nice plotline, very nice music and amazing acting!!!
Rehman and Waheeda Rehman are standards in Guru Dutt movies and the three have given fabulous performances time and time again. I am not sure how many of today’s generation are interested in seeing his movies (which I won’t lie some could find to be slow) but give it a shot...he will not disappoint you.
