First Impressions - Seems very good

I am planning to buy a large screen tv (29 inches or above) in the next 2-3 months. So I decided to start looking at the various offerings from different brands right away so that I can have sufficient time to decide which one I should buy. I checked out the 29inch TVs from Philips, Sony, LG and Haier. I straightaway decided against buying Sony because I don’t want to pay almost double price just for the SONY sticker at the front of the TV. The TVs were categorized into two different technologies, namely, the regular TV and the 100hz Digital TVs. I could see a real difference between the picture quality on regular vs 100hz models within the same brand. Though 100hz TVs costs almost double of the regular TVs, the picture clarity also is good enough to justify the price (more so for some brands). Finally, I could shortlist the Philips 29inch PixelPlus TV (Model.29PT8322) and the Haier 29FV6. The price of the Philips was Rs.30, 000 whereas the Haier was priced at Rs.45, 000. Though the picture quality for the Philips was quite good, the Haier was much better. Also the look of the Haier tv cabinet was much better than the Philips. Also, though both tvs support the HDTV standards, the Philips tv supports only the 1080i resolution whereas the Haier tv supports the 1080p. But this feature will be useful only when you get HDTV transmission from the Satellite channels in India. Since I have read quite a few negative reviews for the Philips Pixelplus tv, I feel that Haier may be a better choice. But this is all based on the first impression in the TV shop. If anyone owns either of the TVs mentioned here, please post a detailed review so that I can make the correct decision.
