Chase Away Your Blues !

Depression seems to affect over ten million adults each year. That’s  really depressing! When you are depressed, you don’t pay very much attention to anything. This hinders your ability to create and store new memories.Memory loss is a sad thing happening, due to depression. It’s a kind of mental illness.

Depression doesn’t discriminate. It affects both the rich and the poor.I remember one of the past American Presidents  Abraham Lincoln going through a depression once.Eventually, he conquered it and went on to become the sixteenth president of the United States.

I can cite another case.Sir.Winston Churchill. He took up painting to help him get through his bouts of depression.

I will try to give you some suggestions to drive away depression.

Exercising is the best thing to do. Exercise can take the place of antidepressant drugs. Drugs cause side effects. But with exercise, you get a feeling of well-being, without any of the drug’s side effects.

You can consider taking a brisk walk every day, setting your own personal best records. You can rent or buy an exercise video tape. Also make sure, it’s at your own workout level and start working out! You will feel very good! No doubt about that.

You can join a gym or health club and make a commitment to yourself to work out on a daily basis.Exercise can almost immediately make you feel  better about yourself and about life in general.

Vitamin B-6 is good for people in depressed state. Magnesium is needed for the most effective absorption of Vit B-6. Magnesium, along with Calcium can calm the nervous system and help relieve depression.

Let me simplify this for you. If you are interested in this remedy, the dosage of 100 mg of B-6, 100 mg of Magnesium and 200 mg Calcium, all  twice a day will be good in your attempt to conquer depression.

A word of caution here! Please check with your doctor before you try this remedy.Have him/her  approve the dosage for you.

Another therapy is by going to a stationary shop and buying a special pad or a note book, to use as an emotional diary.Atleast once a day, you can write down your inner most feelings.Pen down all the  feelings you experience. This can help speeding up the healing process, assist in the management of your grief and also help prevent you from suppressing all that you need to release.

Some people, during the dark months of winter, experience  depression like we do, people living in cold countries. This time, you  get lazy and lethargic and also problems with sleeping.Lack of exposure to sunlight seems to be the cause. You can spend more time outdoors in winter to feel better!

There is a process called’Visualization’ which you can try. It is founded by Dr.Gerald Epstein. He called it’Blowing away the dark Clouds’ and it is for people who have general feeling of blueness. You are required to sit on a comfortable, hard-back chair, relax and take up to a minute for this process.

According to this, you close your eyes and see dark clouds above you.As you stand under these clouds, see yourself blowing them to the left, by blowing out three breaths.( imaginery breaths, not physical!)

Then, look up in the sky to the upper right and watch the sun enter the sky above you. When finished, know that the blues have gone! Slowly count from one to three.Open your eyes, stretch and feel fresh and happier!

Drinking herbal tea also will help you deal with depression.Myrrh is said to be very helpful. You will find Myrrh  powder at the health food stores. You can put a half teaspoon of it in a cup of just-boiled water, and drink after it gets cold.Even burning Myrrh incence sticks chases away negative energy.

Finally, according to me, the  best thing to do to chase away depression is to believe in God and to go to Him for help. Pray to God. Prayer is a spiritual exercise, through which  we can draw ourselves closer to God.

Depression is a negative energy, that grows out of negative thoughts and negative feelings.

When we have God within us through our prayers, we have His ideas, giving us a positive energy. Positive energy  is energy released through enthusiasm.Let’s have God’s ideas generating positive energy within us, thereby chasing away depression from our lives.
