Depression or De-pressurization; dat is d question

Depression is basically a state of mind which all of us have gone thru at sum time or d other in our lives, without any exception. & 4 d depressed, his situation & condition is d worst possible dat can ever B; but he feels dat no1 is able 2 understand him. Truely, no1 can feel exactly what another is going thru unless & until they step in2 d person’s shoes; which is an absolutely difficult thing 2 do.(How do U experience d heartbreak of Ur best fren when U’ve just found dat dream job of Urs? How do U go thru d turmoil of Ur fren who just got fired when U’ve just experienced Ur 1st kiss?) Nay, it’s better not 2 expect any1 else 2 brood over what U r going thru.

Here I wish 2 put in a little thot of mine which just popped up & made me wonder. It’s just a personal thot & I cud very well B wrong. But putting 4ward an opinion never harms any1. Depression usually does not afflict children or d mentally imbalanced. Cud d reason B dat they r happy-go-lucky without much worries in life, living 1 day at a time, not bothering about what 2morrow brings, free 4m d pressures of life? D answer is probably yes; which leads me 2 note dat these lucky un-depressed souls seem 2 B so mainly cos of their complete surrender 2 fate & d offerings of life. Unlike intelligent grown ups, they do not ponder or plan about d future, taking just 1 day at a time, as it comes. How often we have heard dat we shud enjoy each moment 2 d fullest cos time never turns back! But how tough it is 2 follow this simple advice when problems seem 2 surround us.

Have U ever watched a kid who was deprived of sumthing she badly wanted?(Kindly excuse my saying she since I’m relating it 2 my adorable kid sis who is just 9 yrs old) It’s interesting 2 watch dat 4 a short while, she will try various ways of getting her way out; crying, throwing tantrums, screaming, sulking(Oh! Kids r very innovative at it. Trust me!) But once she finds out dat der’s noway she’s going 2 get what she wants, she will reconcile 2 d fact & turn her attention 2 sumthing else within a matter of seconds, 4getting completely what she was raving & ranting about. I feel we, adults, have a lot 2 learn 4m kids about how 2 live life 2 d fullest.

Now dat brings me 2 wonder, when each of us know dat life is a journey of continuous ups & downs; nothing actually lasting a lifetime, y do we actually get depressed.(It’s very necessary 2 understand d hows & whys of a problem b4 coming up with a solution) Being depressed is not sumthing 2 B ashamed of & even d most optimistic people tend 2 get depressed at sumtime or d other in their life. Now consider this: 4m d moment U wake up 2 a beautiful day(which may not seem too bright due 2 a bad dream, mosquitoes in d nite, insomnia or dat project Ur subconscious mite B working on) 2 d moment U drift off 2 sleep after a hectic day which may or may not have been too pleasant; how many worries & tensions do U collect, however trivial? Small incidents which keep on accumulating like each drop in a glass. In our busy life, when we have no time 4 ourselves anymore, these tensions keep on adding up little by little, drop by drop till d cup of sorrow overflows & we face a mental breakdown, when even a tiny drop added seems 2 B like a huge burden since there is no more place 4 it 2 accumulate. This is d time when we go in2 depression.

**De-pression**- What is depression, by d way? It’s just a temporary phase of life like any other which eventually subsides, depending on how U handle it. So, wudn’t it B justified 2 say dat de-pression is just a period of de-pressurizing ourselves & preparing 2 start life afresh? Dat phase between d time when Ur spirits r at d lowest ebb 2 d time when U bounce back 2 life? If dat is so, depression is a necessity, not a vice.

Now dat we know depression in its positive form, it wud B much easier 2 deal with it. I m no expert at handling depression & I’ve had terrible bouts of depression(but never contemplated suicide), still I’d like 2 share my ways of coping up with this temporary transition period. D 1st move is 2 try 2 work things out. But if it’s beyond Ur control, then try any combination or all of d listed items:

1. 1st of all, Never ever pity Urself. Always & always think positive, no matter how difficult it may seem 2 B. Once U master positive thinking, it’s always a piece of cake.

2. Take time out 4 Urself, B 1 with nature & just free Ur mind. Let go!

3. Remember, U r de-pressurizing Urself so pick up a children’s story book & have a good read without having 2 think too hard(Hold Ur laughter until U try this 1 out)

4. Get a comedy movie & settle down on d couch with a bag of potato chips(Jim Carey, Eddie Murphy or Govinda wud B best choices). Watch 2 laugh not criticize. Laugh, laugh & laugh 2 Ur heart’s content till U start crying.

5. Cry, cry as much as U can till all Ur depression is drained off & U feel fresh & a new person again.

6. Pump up d volume & put on sum hard rock stuff(no melancholy sentimental music which cud pull U deeper down)

7. Go 4 a hectic work out till U can’t stand or even sit anymore, take a warm shower & fall off 2 deep sleep.

8. Go 2 an orphanage or social institution & reach out 2 sum1 less 4tunate than U & consider how lucky U r even with all Ur problems.

9. If talking 2 sum1 helps U, open up 2 Ur most trusted fren or 2 a faceless person online & pour our Ur woes(talking 2 an unknown person is often easier than talking 2 sum1 U know).

10. Write out Ur problems on paper & d good things U have on another paper. Go 4 a long mindless walk & read both when U return.(It works wonders)

If d above tips do not work, then boy, r u in serious trouble! D best move wud then B 2 visit a psychiatrist. Taking professional help is nothing 2 B ashamed of cos if it weren’t 4 depression, where wud d psychiatrists go? So, help them also earn their living; but never ever consider suicide or murder cos running away never solves any problem. Well, if even d psychiatrist is unable 2 help U, then my final suggestion wud B, gimme a call. People who know me say dat my laughter is enuf 2 make any1 smile. My comment 2 dat? Well: Try Me!;0)

Life is beautiful & glorious, too precious 2 lose. Hold Ur head up & face d sun; d shadows will fall behind U! Happy De-pressurizing.:0)
