You will either love or hate this movie. I first saw this great film a while back, when it first came out. I decided that I must own it so soon thereafter I bought the movie. I think this movie is hilarious. It appeals to all, kids, parents, friends, you could watch it with your significant other(s). It is that great.
Canadian boy Adam Sandler aka Happy Gilmore (Waterboy, Billy Madison) is a disgruntled hockey player. The only problem is that he isnt good at all. He cant skate, stick handle or isnt very accurate, but he can shoot hard and does have a bad temper. After trying out for the local hockey squad, he is rejected from the team. His girlfriend leaves him, and worst of all, his grandmother loses her house. Alot in two days eh?
Happys nice grandma allegedly has not payed her taxes in over seventy years, and in order to save the house that Happys grandfather bought with his own hands, he must obtain three hundred and some thousand dollars in less than two months. The plot picks up with him learning his bad temper and incredible strength is harnesses in his readiness to hit the golf ball. He finds out he can really crush the ball, and that he can make money hustling people. So then...
He is coaxed into playing golf by Chubbs Peterson, the local pro. He helps Happy win the local tour, so now he is eligible to play in the PGA tour. But trouble brews. After waiting for several years, Shooter Mcgavin, the never had been is on his way to the green jacket. But with Happy and his bad reputation and unorthodox golfing ways, he sees him as a threat. With Happy getting suspended, and then Shooter buying his grandmas house at an auction, Happy makes a deal. He beats him at the final championship, and he gets teh house, he loses he quits forever.
Happy learns how to put (and kills Chubs in the process) and through some controversy makes it to the final round. With a little bit of bad luck, he loses his power shot. But he uses his concentration to tie Shooter and sink an impossible bank shot on the final hole to win the coveted gold jacket.
Happy Gilmore is hilarious, and quite realistic. I recommend it to anyone with a sense of humor!
