I’m a Hathway cable Internet subscriber in Hyderabad. And I’m extremely happy about the connection.
I have a Freeway package (256kbps Unlimited Data Transfer). The speeds are always great.. well, they promise 256 and they give that.
People do not realise that 256kbps is split in the ratio of 4:1 Download:Upload. So u get 200kbps speed. Now this is kbps and not KBps. Its kilobits and not kiloBYTES.
8 bits make a byte. So your speed is 25 KBps. They give that surely.
Another point is the connection is through a cable line with a cable modem sitting beside your system, and not like the umpteen providers who just hook a CAT5 to your system LAN. My cousin had a fried motherboard and melted LAN due to a power surge thru the cable. If something like that happens with Hathway, the modem goes, not the comp.
The best part is the customer service. The CS get online data from your modem and if you switch off your modem, call the CS and tell them net is not working, they will ask you to switch on the modem. Which provider has such a service. Plus any fault is rectified ASAP. Now, we cannot really blame Hathway if anti-social elements cut their wires, if there is no power supply in your local area, etc.
I know people using Dataone/Iqara/Beam/Sify and I feel I’m much better placed than all of them, considering all the stories they tell me. :)
