128 kbps = 8KBps for Hathway

I had some academic project work to be finished and not much spare time at office, which meant I have to go for net connection at home. Called up Airtel first, unfortunately they did not operate in that part of Bangalore where I stay. Called Hathway next and they promised to install within two days. That sounded great since I had less than two weeks to go.

Someone coming up to take my connection request itself took three days! Then he said it could take from a minimum of 3 days to a max of a week to install. Literally pleaded with him to try and make it asap as I dint have much time in hand. Luckily they did it in 3 days, and I managed to have a connection in a week after request.

Now begins the nightmare! To the guy who came to connect I requested to have NightBird scheme with 500Meg limit and night-only connection (as opposed to the Hathway Rush with 100Meg limit and 24hr connection, mentioned in appliation) for just that month as my usage would be high due to the project.

He said such requests are taken only till 15th of the month and though it is only 14th Nov., they would have sent it already at EOD 14th. He was a helpful guy though and drafted a mail himself and sent to customer service requesting the change. The result? They had it changed to NightBird timings with Rush limits! That meant I had the bad part of both the schemes bundled into one!

After a lot of phone calls and mails, I just left hope and started using what they gave. Come end of December, they changed it to NightBird completely without any communiation to me! When contacted they said it is based on a 6-week old request!

Well, that request was supposed to be for a month and its use expired 2 weeks back. Who am I talking to...? They say that I did not explicitly request for a reversal of the scheme I did not have to begin with!

Add to it very frequent down times and around 8KBps speed you get as opposed to the promised 16, Hathway is a big no-no.

If having to call customer service every other day is not your idea of hi-speed net connection, avoid these guys.
