I read Abbeys review (she didnt find much of interest here) and decided to take a peek for myself. Unlike Abbey, I did find the site interesting enough to recommend it for a visit.
Longdendale is, according to the writer, THE most haunted spot in Britain. Sort of the Roswell of Britain. There is a lengthy explanation of why in the section entitled Longdendale Lights. Apparently some feel there are places where a certain combination of geophysical characteristics create a window of sorts. The site does have a fair number of links to other sites and explanations within the articles.
The site is divided into three main areas. Ghosts, Lights and Legends. In spite of the ghostly figure of a young girl on the link to the Ghost section, from there the pictures are few. There are some of the places where sitings have been but without the actual ghost in any way present. (the front of a pub, for instance, in daylight). The pictures supposedly showing lights or figures are grainy and hard to see.
Each haunting is described in a fair amount of detail, as are some experiences with the lights. I found the Legends section to be the most interesting. There are several short (about 1 page) ghost stories. My favorite was one called The Devils Elbow which offers a fanciful explanation of a particular stretch of road of the same name.
The site features a live web cam 16 hours of the day. I couldnt get it to work and my guess is if the pictures are an example of the quality, there wont be much to see.
If you are fascinated by legends of Hauntings and Ghosts, you might want to check this site out. It is also part of a web ring that will link you to other sites. Great Britain has a long history of stories and legends of the supernatural.
Id be really interested to here the views of some of the British writers here at MS about Longdendale. Any takers?
