I am a proud owner of an Pomeranian. These are great little dogs to have to own and love. Pomeranians are very bright, both in intelligence and in personality. Much to that they need consistent human care and lots of interaction to ensure that this quick-minded dog put up the right habits.
Poms are excellent for a small home, apartment or larger homes. They are very easy to housebreak for they seem to have like catlike cleanliness. Most of these dogs because of their keen alertness makes them excellent in the obedience rings in dog shows. My pom is not a show dog but neverless the king of my houshold or at least he thinks the is the king of thehill.
Pomeranians are very vocal dogs. They will bark when something is amiss. Excellent alert dogs but not as a guard dog. My pom bark is his bite. Being hearing impaired, when I am alone, he is very protected of me. Will alert me to any sound.
Because a Pomeranians have a double coated, a short, soft, thick undercoat, with longer, coarse glistening outer coat consisting of guard hairs, needs good grooming. Since, I do not put my pom in dog shows, he gets twice a week grooming. The tools you need to groom a pom is good natural bristal brush, fine slicker brush and a comb. Brush away against the lay of the coat. Then follow up with the other brush or comb.
Bascially speaking before you get any type of pet, like a dog or cat, you need to ask yourself these type questions.
What type of dog or cat are you searching for and why that breed. If not sure, please look up and study on it. Just because a pet looks cute does not mean he/she will act that way.
Does each person or family member in your home known and understand what having a pet will mean and to entail?
Is this type pet good for a small child in your family?
Are you and your family members willing to share time and attention to your pet?
Do you have the resources to keep up your pet. Toys, food, collars, leashes, veterinary care, etc.
Are you considering a pet that is going to be inside the house majority of the time or outside.
My pomeranian is a good dog for my type of family. He goes on daily runs with my teenage daughter, thus great for a very active dog. Then he mellows up my husband and lays on my husbands feet for his naps. Will do all his tricks to get my attention to receive special little treats or morsels. For a little dog, he is a big part of our family. He keeps us all laughing at some of the silly things he does. Pets are great therapy too. I take him to the rest home where my father lives now with other eldery people. My pom will delight them for hours and he will love them all. They look forward to see that bushy tailed dog.
I guess that is most I know about pets other than cats. Maybe sometime in the future I will write about that too.
