Dear friends,
Being part of a family which could be termed as absolute foodies, I wish to bring to the notice of my friends, here at Mouthshut, good dining restaurants. We have frequented, more than one time, almost al restaurants from Colaba till Andheri, and though the places I sometimes review about, may not be quite ambient and suitable for trendy crowds, or families for that matter, I sincerely do wish to bring forth absolute quality food to my member friends. Hope my reviews come across as suitably enticing and mouth-watering as possible, if there are any additions, flaws, comments or suggestions, please do let me know.
Once upon a time, a famous Punjabi Dhaba in the Sion Koliwada area, close to Shanmukhananda Hall, is now, a restaurant and bar today. Exactly opposite the Mini Punjab restaurant, most famous for its Punjabi Non-Vegetarian dishes (but the seating capacity and arrangements make it a strict no-no for families), Hazara is a haven for Non-Vegetarian as well as Vegetarian foodies. Prawns/Rawas Koliwada are undoubtedly their forte, followed by excellent Paneer Chilly and Paneer Pakodas. The Prawns Methi Seekh Kababs are worth a try, for a change, with Dal Makhani and superb only-mutton Kheema, with pure wheat Rotis, which are a rarity in modern restaurants. Please do try out the Baby Corn Mushroom Chilly, highly recommended and suggested by my Mum and Aunty.
The so-called family room upstairs is capable of seating a maximum of 20 persons, only and unfortunately, the service is very lacking, not to speak of poor ambience too. Ambience in an ex-dhaba ? The place is open till quite late at night, parking is quite problematic, but the food is simply superb and full VFM (Value For Money).
P. S. Hazara, at Sion Koliwada, is apt for friends and business associates, most suitable for a drink or two late evenings. The ambience and decor are pretty shady, quite like a typical Mumbai bar, although the waiters and staff are very co-operative and immensely decent. You could try out the Family Room upstairs, provided the female members take it in good sport, and are willing to sacrifice the look part of the restaurant, for some amazing Punjabi khana .... !! I suggest Hazara for those typical BACHELORS NIGHT OUTS .... :)
