I have my salary account at HDFC Bank since last 6 and half years. Till now I had small problems with them but nothing serious as such .
Since last 2-3 months I noticed that my account is being charged for some obvious services like availing email notifications for all bank transactions.
Recently when I applied for a statement of account, they issued me one very happily but charged me 100 Rs. silently:)
When I called customer service, they were very reluctant to provide any reasoning why I am being charged 100 Rs for issuing a simple account statement, which is nothing but a simple print out some ready made data from software. All I could hear from them was "**Its a rule.** We charge you 100 Rs.".
Then the lady attending my query guided me to a page on their website, which reads out a lot of other charges.
I found these issues problematic:
*1.** **Customer is being charged 100 Rs for issuing a a/c statement.
25 Rs. per quarter for getting alerts through email.
Charge of 5 Rs.(!) per leaf of charge:( This is too much *
When you issue a cheque to someone, from net banking all you can see is cheque number and amount. **It DOES NOT show the beneficiary name. **If you want to know that, you are supposed to go to their branch and give a written application. **Then they can tell u the beneficiary name. And more ever you will be charged 25 Rs. every instance. *

I am not listing other issues of payment for services here as the list is too long.
Finally I would like to tell my understanding, bank is the place where u can put your money for any time as you wish and its guaranteed that the money / balance will not leak:) But I am not sure, if I keep my money at HDFC, if it can remain safe.
I dont know if they are earning their profits by charging people with such charges or from interest for loans / deposits game.
*A big NO NO to HDFC Bank!*
