This review is my( and my family) over all Experience with HDFC. Worst banking experience. I am In US and used QuickRemit to send money to my wife, who is visiting India for a few months trip. She had some emergency and needed some cash and I have send money though quickremit DD option( she does not have an account, else I would have send money to her account directly), DD was delivered to her parents address. Now when she goes to Branch to cash the DD. They do not allow her to cash a non crossed DD.
They asked her to open an account just to cash a non crossed DD. A Crossed DD is one which can only be cashed to an account, a non crossed DD must be able to able to cash by producing enough ID proof. HDFC branch manager just demand to open account. They so starved of customers that they force you to open account. This was my wifes experience.
Now let me tell about my mothers experience, she opened a zero balance womans account with a small 1K amount. I was supposed to send her money which I delayed and bank manger was calling and literally harassing her to deposit more money and asking why she opened account when there are no deposits. I have transferred some amount and now they call her back and ask who is the who deposited and what is the purpose that I was depositing money to her account and my relationship with her.
Lastly my experience, I was having a salary account and all was fine as long as I was getting salary to that account. I changed job and so salary account changed and it was nightmare dealing with HDFC, until I closed my account.
My friend opened an NRI account for a home loan, Bank does not take his US address and send all communications to Indian address. They do not even all him to do any phone transactions and he has to get through a lot of pain to get the things sorted out with HDFC customer care.
My advice, be prepared for worst when dealing with HDFC.
