This bank really sucks
I am presently in U.S.A. I came here some 2 months back on a F1 Visa.I was interested in an insurance policay that would cover all my medical expenses( accidental and otherwise).So, I went to the HDFC bank at chaitanyapuri( they call it the gaddiannaram branch).There was one Mr.Bhaskar who was the incharge of the insurance policy.I told him about me and what I wanted.And he explained to me about the policy.He said this policy would give u a cover of 10 lakhs.It is valid overseas as well, as in u will get ur medical expenses paid by our bank in less than 24 hours.I asked him If I could see the prospectus or any paper that would explain to me , the finer details of the plan.He said he does not have anything like that and he also said "Ours is a big bank"You got to trust us.I was impressed and I decided to take the policy.He had asked for the photocopies of my VISA, Passport and I20 and also a check for 3500 I favour of their bank.I gave him everything he had asked for.He assured me that I would be getting my policy in 10 days by post.I did get a letter from the HDFC bank.I thought it was the insurance copy.But, to my chagrin when I opened the envelope I found a letter on which it was mentioned that , only employee’s whose income is more than 1.6 lakh per annum is eligible for this plan.I went to talk to this GREAT LOYAL Employee Mr.Bhaskar unaware of what was in store.there were 3 employee’s of the bank sitting at the table of Mr.Bhaskar.I told them about the letter I got from the head office.And one of three employee’s says "sir.when they call U on ur number asking if ur a student u must say them that ur not a student but a businessman".I was stunned.I had given the photocopies of my I20 My passport and VISA and this guy was saying that I must tell them that I am a businessman.
After hearing to their non sense I asked them to cancel my insurance plan and return me my money.(which he had promised he would do If I decide to cancel my policy).He agreed to that.
Five days went by and after that I rang him up and asked about my money.Now came another twist.Mr.bhaskar was saying that his boss would get the policy done for me.Here is a great irony.The company rules make me ineligible for the policy but, some employee feels I am eligible.Even if I were to take the policy and make a claim I will have to face many problems.But he was not ready to do that.I lost my composure and I said that I dont need the policy.He made another promise that he would give me my money in 5 days
After 5 days I got the policy mailed to me.
By then I landed in the U.S and now all I can do is laugh at my innocence and get angry over the dishonesty of HDFC bank employee’s.
This episode taught me a few lessons.
I will never again go to HDFC bank.
If U ever go HDFC bank BE CAREFUL
