Hi,

HDFC has a great product called Netsafe that allows to generate a one-time use virtual card that can be used on any website for purchasing online.

I have generated about 25 to 30 Netsafe cards in the past year and a half. About 95% of these have worked.

Some scenarios where they may not work:

1. So international sites do not accept Indian cards.

   
   




2. Ensure that the currency conversion rate applied is more on the greater side. For e.g. if the dollar to rupee conversion is about 1 USD = INR 46, while creating the Netsafe card, suggest you calculate using a rate of atleast INR 48 or 49.

   
   




3. Some websites, have a tendency of sending a ONE DOLLAR purchase transaction just to verify the card and then send the full purchase amount within a few seconds or even after a few hours. Since Netsafe card is a single use card, after the initial ONE DOLLAR verification txn, the actual purchase transaction will get declined. You should follow up with the website.

   
   




4. Some website (US) also do a Address Verification Check (AVS) while sending authorization for a credit card. NetSafe does not respond to a AVS check since most Indian banks do not support AVS. Hence the card may be declined by the merchant

   
   




5. Ensure you have used the right Netsafe card number on the merchant website - since all digits are randomly generated, you may have copied some digits wrongly. Verify by going to the card list or transactions page in NetSafe for the correct card number

   
   




6. NetSafe cards are open only for 24 hours to 48 hours. So if you do not use the card within that time - the card expires and your money is returned back to your account.

   
   




7. However, if you use partial amount from the card, then the balance amount is returned to your account ONLY AFTER 35 days. This is as per standard policies of credit card processing, but dont worry - ur money will definitely reach u, albeit after 25 days
