I had one of the worst experience with the customer service of HDFC cards. I got the HDFC MasterCard Gold card without even have to fill up the form.
They sent me a card purely based on the Automobile loan that I had taken from them. I have been using my card without too much of glitches for one year. The trouble started after that. My cards magnetic strip has been damaged by some wrong swiping and was rejected by POS terminals. I asked for a replacement of my card with the HDFC Bank on call customer service.
They asked me to drop a ritten request in the nearest ATM. The funny point is that I dont know why they have an on-call support for If I have to drop a written request for a simple reissue. I did so only to get a letter from the customer service saying the signature on the letter did not match with the one on their records. Here is another catch. Without me filling up any form for the card I dont know how the hell they got my signature up their records.
I emailed the customer service asking for the reason only to be told that I need to fill up a signature change form along with another copy of reissue request letter along with a copy of my driving license. I did so and again only to get a mail from them saying the signature on the signature change form did not match with the signature on the reissue request. I dont know why they are making so much of fuss about reissuing a card when Bg banks like Citi, HSBC, Standard Chartered etc reissue cards on a phone call. Getting pissed off by their attitude I have closed my card and they have taken this request without asking for written request.
My advice to future customers is that never get a HDFC credit card. Their customer service is hopeless and they are more happy to close the card rather than help you.
