I have a HDFC Titanium card - and my average annual spend is over 80-90000. In Aug while on a business trtip to Manila(Philippines) I used my card to pay for the hotel. At the end of that month my card statement showed two bills, one for the 16th of Aug, and another for the 16/17/18th. I wrote to HDFC(they are still in the stone age, and do not accept e-mail, you have to write to their credit card div in Chennai)- and pointed out the error. So they reversed the extra charge for the 1 day. Now, in Nov I get a letter from them saying- sorry you have to pay that extra amount as well since we have the evidence to back that. What was the evidence -? An unsigned credit card statement. An my hotel registration.
Problem is, if you go abroad and use your card - HDFC will charge you whether you sign the statement or not. Now that is not acceptable. One of the major advantages of using a credit card is that the issuing bank will authenticate the transaction - otherwise what is the point of signing the slip?
Now I have to go back and start fighting with the stupid people in HDFC all over again. The call centre is so unresponsive, the credit card div takes so long to respond. AND THEY SIMPLY DO NOT CARE. Imagine sending me a unsigned credit card slip and saying this is evidence. This means that anyone can charge you and HDFC will insist that you pay - never mind that you have not signed any statement.
ADVICE - BE CAREFUL, AND DO NOT USE HDFC - never mind if they call the card TITANIUM or PLATINUM or GOLD. THEY WILL NOT PROTECT YOU AGAINST FRAUD!
