Seeing the high claim settlement ration of HDFC Life, I bought an online term plan( click2protect) from them. The initial process of buying online was quick. The trouble started after wards.
When I didnt receive my policy documents after 1-2 weeks, I contacted the courier service( BSA courier), who could not provide any tracking of my documents and later stopped replying to my mails. Then I got a mail from HDFC that I have to pay Rs. 300 for duplicate copy of the documents. I questioned them about this payment as I have not lost the documents, and it is the fault of their courier service.
Then they told me that they will be sending the documents to my nearest HDFC branch, from where I could collect them.( I agreed to this, as they have some odd things written in their correspondence.
(i) I cant cancel the policy unless I have the hard-copy of the policy
(ii) I will be losing Rs. 1000 spent on the stamp-duty of the documents, if I cancel them in the free-look period. In any case, I will be at loss.
After few days, I got a message that the documents were returned back by the courier service as the house was locked. This message came 26 days after my policy was approved. I called HDFC and asked them that how this is possible that when the documents needed to be send to the HDFC branch, and they are being sent back from the house, or all this is probably fake communication to make customer as the end-culprit.
At last, I collected my policy documents from the branch, 1 month after their issue. While searching on the internet, I found that several other customers have similar complaints. I am really puzzled, that what the HDFC customer care/ management is doing to resolve these issues.
